This past week, Mrs. Malson’s AP art class has been working on what student Nikita Cygnarowicz (12) described as a “personal assignment,” meaning the artists could choose what they wished to create. Cygnarowicz drew a black and white piece depicting several flowers for the project.
Cygnarowicz said that his inspiration for the project involved wanting something to decorate his house with. He described his process, beginning with “[taking] a photo of some houseplants, then changing it to black and white so I could sketch it.”

Cygnarowicz used graphite pencils (which are often used in black and white art due to their vast range of grayscale shades) to create his finished piece.
