The Mandalorian and Grogu is the tenth theatrical release in the Star Wars franchise. Written by Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau and directed by Favreau, it was released into theatres on 22 May 2026. Being a sequel to the TV show on Disney+, The Mandalorian, which aired for three seasons, the film follows bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), also known as the Mandalorian, as he and his sidekick Grogu travel throughout the universe of Star Wars.Â
The film follows the Mandalorian and Grogu as they are enlisted by the New Republic to prevent the spread of Imperial rule by warlords across the galaxy. In this adventure, the pair come across new and familiar faces seen before in the Star Wars universe.Â
The context of this film is taken after the end of Return of the Jedi, where the empire has fallen, but the galaxy is still run by those with imperial idealisms.Â
In this story, The Mandalorian and Grogu are tasked with finding an imperial warlord named Coin. To get this information, the pair makes a deal with the Hutt Twins, who will give information on Coin in return for the mandalorian finding Rotta the Hutt, who was captured by a syndicate empire and is currently being held as a gladiator.Â
Being the first Star Wars film in seven years, The Mandalorian and Grogu has a lot of expectations, but it is the first film since 2018’s Solo that is not a part of The Skywalker Saga. The film itself has received mixed reviews, with many praising Pascal’s performance but criticizing the plot. The movie itself isn’t very ambitious, with it seeming on par with the first three season of The Mandalorian TV show rather than a big event meant to be seen on the big screen.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is another great installment in the Star Wars franchise that is filled with great performances, visuals, but a plot that leaves a lot to be desired and doesn’t define itself as a much watch experience unlike previous Star Wars films. As of right now, the film is only showing in theatres, but is expected to release onto Disney+ by the end of Summer.
