Hidden on the side of downtown Livermore, Best Budz Vintage is a somewhat recently opened store that is locally owned and operated. Best Budz Vintage is a thrift store that specializes in unique vintage clothing for all genders according to the official Downtown Livermore website.

From denim, classic band tees, and unique accessories, Best Budz Vintage offers curated finds that promote individuality and sustainable fashion.

Unlike many clothing brands that sell mass produced items that are typically simple, this shop focuses on one of a kind pieces that are typically harder to find and are personally sourced and found by the owners.

In my experience, this store is definitely more unique compared to other curated thrift stores. Although the assortment of clothing is much more pricey, I believe that it is worth it for the curation of shirts and denim that the owners personally find for their business.

Although it is somewhat hidden, a small sign directs and advertises Best Budz Vintage, helping guide customers to find it in their little side of the town.

Walking into the store, I noticed an oaky but natural aroma coming from the many incense sticks lit around the space. This was honestly one of my favorite small parts of the store, helping me feel more comfortable and involved in the eras the stores try to depict. Depending on the shopper, this can be either a positive or a negative due to certain stimulation preferences.

The shop’s atmosphere reflects the eras represented by its clothing, with vintage decoration and typically indie music helping to create such an enjoyable environment.

Visitors are greeted by racks of assorted clothing, retro patterns, and a carefully arranged layout that encourages browsing. Starting from the front, miscellaneous items such as candles, mugs, and pins are displayed with a motorcycle, which encourages the customer to visit further for the clothing items they need.

I noticed that many decorations such as paintings and plants were hung on the walls, along with mannequins displaying some of the store’s best-styled pieces in an outfit. There were also vinyl records attached to the walls.

Looking up, you’ll see a flamboyant disco ball, which is sometimes turned on, creating a lively atmosphere.

One of the store’s most notable features is its vinyl record area, where customers can browse records while shopping, adding to the shop’s vintage theme. Next to this area is a small dressing room featuring a three-way mirror. Guests are encouraged to try on clothes they are interested in to check sizing and looks.

One of my favorite features is the decoration of the checkout area. The shelves hold an interesting amount of thoughtfully arranged items, such as paintings and ceramics that add to the store’s aesthetic.

The store’s focus on vintage fashion also connects to a growing interest in sustainability. Best Budz Vintage encourages customers to reuse old clothing rather than purchase new items.

This unique store promotes practices that help reduce waste and support environmentally friendly shopping habits. Stores like Best Budz Vintage provide an alternative to fast fashion, which is something that I personally look out for when available.

On the other hand, shopping at a vintage store can be different from shopping at regular clothing retailers. Items are pre-owned and limited in quantity, which can make finding the right size or style more difficult. This was something that I noticed and struggled with. I found many good pieces that fit my personal preferences, but I had to put them back due to the sizes, which was unfortunate. 

Another factor that contributes to the shop’s appeal is its connection to the local community. Best Budz Vintage adds to the variety of locally owned shops in Livermore and provides a different shopping experience in comparison to larger retail stores.

Vintage fashion has become increasingly popular among younger shoppers, especially those looking to express individuality through their clothing, and Best Buz Vintage helps younger generations find and explore their aesthetic. 

Overall, my rating for Best Budz Vintage is significantly high, it represents a blend of fashion, sustainability, and community. The store provides something unique in downtown Livermore in comparison to the bigger fast fashion brands.
