Legendary actor and cultural icon Chuck Norris passed away this week at the age of 86.
Recognized and known primarily for his acting and martial arts skills, Chuck Norris made his way to the big screen in 1970’s, acting alongside Bruce Lee in the 1972 film, The Way of the Dragon. Before beginning his acting journey Norris joined the United States Air Force, beginning his studies of martial arts that would affect him for the rest of his life.
Born on March 10th, 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma, Carlos Ray Norris grew up in a low income household and unhealthy environment. When Norris was 16, his parents divorced, causing him to move to California.
While living in California and after leaving the U.S. Norris found fame in his studies of martial arts. In the 1960’s, Norris had become very infamous in the martial arts community, becoming a worthy competitor and working his way up into championships held all around the world. After his rising status, Norris had invested his skill into helping train celebrities, meeting icons such as Bruce Lee.
Norris’s fame only grew as he began acting, working in films such as Good Guys Wear Black and Missing in Action. His growing persona within Hollywood only cemented his role in film, often being depicted as a hero-like caricature in his films. Norris’s place in film history truly came from his role as Cordell Walker in the TV show Walker, Texas Ranger. The show began airing in 1993 and lasted 8 years before stopping in 2001.
Throughout the 21st century, Chuck Norris remained a cultural icon, continuing his acting journey, starring in films such as The President’s Men and The Expendables 2. In 2005, Norris grew a larger following through becoming an internet meme, further cementing his place in pop culture.
Chuck Norris passed away on March 20th, 2026, due to a medical emergency that has yet to be disclosed to the public. Norris passed away in Hawaii in the company of his family.
Although Norris took a step away from acting in the 21st century, his online presence further solidified his part in pop culture history and maintained his legacy even after his death.
