Releasing in April, 2028, what is being called the “first bingeable theatrical experience” will be released into theatres. Four movies, each being centered around a member of The Beatles, are currently in development and have started filming as of the beginning of this year.
As of the beginning of this month, Sony Pictures has been teasing the cast of these upcoming films, releasing our first ever looks at the official cast in their costumes.
These first looks have gathered a lot of attention from all corners of the internet, as they have completely divided fans and have many concerned about the accuracy of the actors portraying The Beatles, with them being described as very inaccurate and having little to no resemblance to the original people.
Directed by Sam Mendes and distributed by Sony Pictures, the films will star Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and will follow each member throughout the majority of the 1960s during the Beatles reign of the music scene.
The screenplays are rumored to be written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne. It is also not entirely out of the question for Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr themselves to be present for the writing process – if not only to correct any misconceptions.
Other well-known actors such as Saorise Ronan, Aimee Lou Wood, and Anna Sawai will be playing the band-members’ significant others (Linda McCartney, Patty Boyd, and Yoko Ono respectively).
This ‘theatrical experience’ will also be the first time that the Beatles members have granted their full life stories and music rights for scripted film. This fact certainly gives Mendes the agency to create four beautifully accurate biographical films.
Despite the concern of the films direction and casting, the turnout of the production seems very promising, keeping old fans satisfied with the bands’ depiction while also introducing new fans to the legacy of The Beatles.
