Opinion: Thoughts on Granada’s Changed Breakfast Time

Last week was a normal week for Granada, with Friday ending leading into the 3-day weekend of Labor Day. But with the end of that week, came the end of the traditional school breakfast schedule. Is the change necessary, and if not, is it a good one? Will everyone agree with it, or will there be dislike from the community? As of September 5, Granada will change, for better or worse, will thoughts of the change be good or bad?

Breakfast will only be available before your first class begins, with the timeframe stretching from 7:40 – 8:40. This means that students who arrive late to school will have to arrive earlier if they depend on the school for breakfast, or will have to ask teachers to leave class to get it, as they will have 10 minutes after the start of 1st period to get their food. Obviously this might be upsetting for some, as they might not be the kind to get to school early enough for breakfast. Knowing this, students who love getting their breakfast between 1st and 2nd period will have to deal with this change, and they will have to just go earlier, which for some does not work.

From a student perspective, the change does not make sense. Many students, such as Travis Dare, sophomore, who felt the change was, ¨inconvenient for him because he does not want to have to get to school early.¨ Dare also said that, ¨I understand the change, it’s just that I was used to getting my breakfast during that break, as I felt it was a better time for me.¨

He went on to say,  ¨I will just get breakfast in the morning if it is one worth the effort, if not he will just bring some snacks from home.¨

So students might not know about this change now, but whenever they try for a snack after first period, they will see the change. Some will think nothing of the change, and brush it off, seeing the bright side of the change. But some, like seen from the interview, will obviously see it as an inconvenience. So the real question is whether or not this change will ever be reverted, or if the change is final for all of Granada.
