Joe Jonas, a singer in the band “Jonas Brothers,” is getting a divorce from Sophie Turner, an actress. This weekend, news broke that Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer, and on Tuesday, September 5th, it was announced that he has filed for divorce. Since then, rumors have been circulating about the the pair’s relationship.
The news of their divorce came as a shock to fans, considering the two had a seemingly very happy marriage. Jonas and Turner met in October of 2016, through Instagram DMs. Jonas invited the actress to meet while his tour was going through the UK. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Turner said, “We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I wasn’t bored.” One year after first meeting, in October 2017, Turner and Jonas got engaged, and had a surprise wedding on May 1st, 2019. A few months later, the pair had a second wedding with friends and family. In 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Willa, and in 2022 they had their second daughter (whose name has not been revealed).
On August 14th, Turner was seen supporting her husband at the Jonas Brothers World Tour concert. Just three weeks later, it was announced that Joe Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer. TMZ reported a source had told them the couple had “serious problems” for “at least six months.” The same source says the two children had been with Jonas throughout his tour and he’d been taking care of them “pretty much all of the time.” TMZ also stated that “Joe is asking for joint custody of their 2 daughters, 3-year-old Willa and their 1-year-old,”
However, on Monday, September 4th, Jonas posted a photo to his Instagram of his wedding ring still on his finger. Many took this as the singer saying he isn’t divorcing Turner. One comment said, “We see a ring! Thank God!” Another reads, “Divorce rumors are silenced with one photo.”
Unfortunately, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Jonas has filed for divorce. Both Jonas and Turner released a statement on Instagram on Wednesday, September 6th, saying “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and the children.” Fans have wished the best for both of them and are supporting them and sending them love during this difficult time.
