The Chemistry Club, although a rather new addition to our club listings here at Granada, has already had a very high participation rate with 15 students at their first official club meeting on Friday, September 15, 2023.
The Chemistry Club specializes in aiding students who are having trouble in chemistry, offering free tutoring sessions during club meetings, or inviting those who are looking to tutor. Aside from tutoring, they also engage in different activities, such as labs or fun games that include subjects within chemistry. Labs will mostly revolve around the theme of food, with participants being able to eat the food after performing experiments and investigations.
“[It] does not matter if you want to be a tutor,” says Samaira Grover (10), Vice President of the club, during the meeting in which she welcomes all students, “all that matters is that you’re interested in chemistry.”
Adithi Chakkera, the President of the club and a junior at Granada High, expresses why it is that she began the Chemistry Club this year, bringing to attention previous issues in regard to students disliking chemistry, “So I took chemistry last year and I found it to be a class that a lot of people were struggling with and as a result, disliked it. I hope to make it a fun subject in order to fix that.”
The Chemistry Club is looking forward to beginning tutoring sessions and fun labs soon and encourages anyone who is either interested in being a tutor or just a young aspiring scientist looking for a bit of fun to join the Chemistry Club. Join the Remind at @ghschem23. They meet every other Friday during lunch in Ms. Cleveland’s room, S-9. We can’t wait to see you there!
