Pixar’s “Inside Out” was one of the biggest movies in 2015. It brought in $91.1 million in ticket sales in its opening weekend alone. For the last seven years, many have talked about wanting a sequel to the beloved movie. A few days ago, at D23, those people’s wishes came true. Here’s what we know so far about this upcoming film.

“Inside Out” was a huge hit when it was released in 2015. It was one of the highest rated films of the year, and was the highest-grossing opening ever for a Pixar movie. In the movie we follow the story of a young girl, Riley. Riley moves to San Francisco, and deals with a new school and having to make friends. This is all portrayed through Riley’s head. We see emotions such as Fear, Sadness, Anger, Joy, and Disgust come to life. The five emotions discuss how to handle problems, and which one would be appropriate in any given situation. Needless to say, people loved the movie. Ever since its release, fans have been hoping for a sequel.

Pixar officially announced its plans for an “Inside Out” sequel at D23 on September 9th. Both the original director, Pete Docter, and the lead voice actress, Amy Poehler, will return. According to “Deadline,” Poehler stated the sequel will “take place in Riley’s head, only this time she’s a teenager”. Riley will apparently deal with new emotions, whose names have yet to be announced. We do not know whether all of the original characters and cast will return yet. “Inside Out 2”  hit theaters in 2024.
