Granadas Athlete of the Week is Girls’ Varsity Water polo player, Alice Graham. Graham is a junior who has played water polo for 3 years at Granada High School.
Water polo is a very competitive and grueling sport that consists of 2 teams each trying to throw a ball into the rival team’s goal. Alice describes the hardships of the sport saying, “It’s really tiring and a lot of swimming and work, and people are pulling on you and being really aggressive but I love it and I wouldn’t change anything about it.”
In order to have a good season and overall a good time playing water polo, a strong supportive team is necessary. “…I feel like having a good team honestly makes a good player. When you have a strong team it’s so much easier to be a good player,” says Graham.
Graham explains how being a student-athlete can be tiring but at least you know you have your teammates to help guide you along the way. “You come to school every day knowing that you already have people that support you and have your back, like if you start as a freshman but you play a sport you already have a group of people you can totally hang out with.”
Varsity Water Polo coach, Coach Megan, explains Graham’s strengths which are a positive impact on the team, commenting how Graham has great, “Endurance, speed ball, and game awareness, and she’s very knowledgeable and good at picking up on what’s happening.
Overall, Alice Graham is a very hardworking, strong, athlete. Besides her skills in communicating with her team and defending the ball, Graham has shown great teamwork throughout the beginning of this season and Granada hopes to see Graham and her team succeed throughout this water polo season.
