The Height of Granada Students

The Height of Granada Students

A wide range of students attend Granada High School, all standing at different heights, but what is the most common height? Are Granada students usually tall or usually short? To find the answer, we surveyed 62 students.

Looking at the graph, the responses were all very diverse, with most of the students being somewhere between 5 foot and 5 foot 9 inches tall. While it is difficult to tell what the most common height at Granada is, we can take an educated guess with the data that has been collected.

The most common height of students at Granada is tied between 5 foot 3 inches and 5 foot 5 inches, which is less than the average height of most American high school students at 5 foot 7 inches.

Though there are a few students who are much taller than most on campus, one of whom is Granada basketball player, Andrew McKeever. McKeever is a whopping 7 feet tall, and able to touch the ceiling without even stretching out his arm. When asked about how his height has affected his life, he had this to say.

“It gave me opportunities in basketball, but other than that it’s the same,” said McKeever.

Even though his height has opened doors for him in sports, McKeever feels that it really doesn’t affect his life that much. Other tall students on campus feel a pretty similar way to McKeever. Karly Bonaventure, a freshman on the volleyball team, is 6 foot 2 inches tall and was asked the same question.

“I feel like it gives me a lot of opportunities in life, like in the future I’ll have more options for jobs,” said Bonaventure.

Another common response from these two athletes was the source of their height. Both McKeever and Bonaventure credit their height to their parents.

Bonaventure even claims that, “my family comes from a long line of very tall people.”

Even with all of the exceptionally tall people on campus, there are some students that are a little bit shorter than average. We spoke to an anonymous student who is around 4 foot 9 inches tall. She explained her experience as an exceptionally short person.

“I can’t reach the top of the shelf for ramen, and it’s very difficult,” said the student.

Despite being especially common at Granada, students who are on the shorter side feel that their lives are more difficult because of their height. Even when asked if there was anything positive about being short, this student didn’t have much to say.

“Nothing, there is nothing positive about being short,” said the student.

Granada High School is so diverse in so many ways, and it is so interesting to see students of all heights walking around campus everyday. Despite the opportunities that some tall people receive, or some of the inconveniences that short people endure, at the end of the day it doesn’t make that much of a difference.
