At Granada High School, AP Exam Registration opens on September 15, 2025 and closes on October 31, 2025 for a fee of $130.00 per exam. Despite the expensive cost, many students are purchasing these tests for the benefits the exams have for their futures.
Taiye Bumpus (11) discussed the AP Classes she has registered for this year.
“This year, I’m taking four exams. AP Calc BC, AP Lang, AP Spanish, and APUSH,” she said.
While the costs of these tests may be expensive, Bumpus explained her reasons for taking these exams in the first place.
“I’m taking these exams because I’m working hard all year in the classes and the tests would be a reflection of that,” Bumpus said.
Bumpus further noted how her hard work would pay off, and how these exams would contribute to her goals.
“Scoring well would prove I can handle hard course loads in the future…AP courses also allow me to gain deeper knowledge in specific topics that will benefit me in the future,” Bumpus said.
“The AP Test will increase my chance of getting a good job in the future because I will already have previous experience of heavy workloads,” further emphasizing the benefits of the rigorous courses.
However, not only will it help her with workload experience, but economically in the long run as well.
“For me, paying $130 for a test I will pass will give me credit for college classes three times the price,” Bumpus said.
Overall, Bumpus reflected, “The GPA and the outcome of the tests encourages me to take the classes, since it makes my college application look better and my report card.”
Another student with a heavy load of AP classes in her schedule, Aadya Huddar (12), also noted her experiences regarding AP Registration.
“I’m taking AP Psychology, AP Gov, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, and AP Literature,” Huddar said.
She further emphasized her motivations for taking the course.
“I took these AP Classes to make me more competitive at UCs and other top universities,” Huddar said.
She added to these ideas by saying, “If I have a higher GPA, I will look more attractive to colleges, I can get more college credit, and I can graduate earlier.”
However, she mentions a specific barrier regarding AP Classes.
“The AP’s I took this year didn’t earn me college credit, but the ones I took junior year will,” Huddar said.
Overall, Huddar knew that AP Classes were absolutely vital to her overall high school and college experiences.
“I knew that if I didn’t take at least a few APs, I would basically fall behind. I want to be prepared for and get more credit for college,” Huddar said.
Many students at Granada are purchasing AP tests, knowing the benefits they can have on academic success in both high school and college and are currently preparing to take the exams in Spring.
