As the year progresses, an increasing number of student-athletes are seeking to play their sport at the collegiate level. Many are either starting to talk to colleges or are trying to decide which school to commit to, but Kamryn Brannon (11) has already made up her mind.
Brannon is committed to play Division 1 softball at Michigan State University, home of the Spartans, in order to continue her academic and athletic career. She has been playing softball since she was four years old.
Brannon is currently a junior here at Granada and has been a pitcher for the Varsity softball team since she was a freshman in the 2023-2024 school year. She has been deemed a reliable player for the team, coming in and dominating when they need her. “Brannon has been nothing but reliable on the mound,” says the MaxPreps team report after her game against Carondelet back in 2024.
When asked about the moment she realized she wanted to play in college, Brannon said, “When I started playing travel softball when I was 10.”
Although she received another offer from the University of Utah, she chose Michigan State because “I liked the coaches and I like the environment better at Michigan State,” Brannon stated.
She credits her parents for helping her reach her current position and for supporting her not only financially but also emotionally. In her commitment announcement on Instagram, she wrote, “I would like to thank my parents for spending so much money and time on me and all of the sacrifices that have been made for me to chase my dreams.”
“My teammates and coaches help me improve by constantly pushing me to play to the best of my abilities,” said Brannon when asked how her coaches and teammates aided in her success as a player. “I would also like to thank my coaches… for helping me along the recruiting process,” she wrote on her Instagram, “and the rest of the coaching staff for having faith in me.”
“I am so thankful to the coaches here at Michigan State,” Brannon said, “ for putting so much time and money into me and blessing me with this opportunity. Go Spartans!”
As she looks forward to the next chapter of her athletic career, she remains grateful for all the opportunities she has had to be able to step forward into the spot she is in now.
