Week after week, they have taken the field, and week after week, they have been unstoppable. The JV Girls Flag Football team is currently undefeated in their season so far. Whether the games are home or away, they have dominated anywhere they go.
When asked what she likes the most about this year’s team, Karly Stoner (11) says, “The sisterhood, honestly. Everybody is really good teammates, and we all hype each other up.”
Tatum Conover (9) was asked about what she thinks helps with the team’s success. She claims the team chemistry is definitely at the top of the list.
“I think that we all get along really well, and we all focus during practice and film,” said Conover.
Bianca Bejines (10) claims that the coaches constantly push them to succeed by being stern but also having fun times during practice.
“They work us hard, they push us hard by conditioning us and stuff, but they’re not being super strict and yelling to the point that makes us not want to play,” Bejines said.
The players all said that the toughest game for them this season has been their first game against Amador Valley High School, since they had only just finished tryouts and had only one practice as a team before their first game.
“It feels so good. Last season, we had a bit of a rough time, and it just feels good to be able to show what we can do,” Bejines said when asked how it felt to be undefeated.
Some pregame routines or rituals that the team uses to help them prepare for the games are listening to music and playing catch. To stay focused during a game, Stoner said, “focusing and remembering what my job is and calling out to the team helps me stay focused during a game.”
They all agree that they expect the rest of their season to be a good one, with expectations to continue playing hard and improving, as well as trying their best to maintain their undefeated record.
“I expect us to improve even more and hope that we don’t lose our winning streak,” said Conover.
The team just took home another win at the most recent game, where they won 28-0 against the Northgate Broncos.
“I would like the school to know that just because we are on JV doesn’t mean we don’t play well. A lot of people look and talk down on JV teams and think they’re not good just because they aren’t on Varsity. People should think that JV is its own team and own level, and just because we’re on that level doesn’t mean we’re bad players,” said Bejines.
