As the 2025-26 school year starts, it is inevitable that the progressing clubs must choose a new representative in order to carry on. As Granada’s longest running club, Hip Hop Club has continued on their tradition of choosing their new officers. Through perseverance, patience, and performance, Kacelyn Clavo has been elected as Hip Hop Club’s newest and most diligent president.

Hip Hop Club has an outstanding background of being as inclusive as one can be to any grade level and skill level of dance. All officers make sure to provide a safe space for students to express themselves and their passions.

Starting as a freshman, Clavo decided to join Hip Hop in order to push herself out of her comfort zone and express herself. Ever since she has discovered herself, she has continued to participate in each rally whenever possible.

“Performing in such a tight knit and committed community has helped motivate me and others to keep going to practice,” said Clavo, as she noted the unique bonds shared among members.

“Honestly, self esteem and confidence really goes a long way when it comes to performing in front of the entire school,” said Clavo. For student performers, building inner confidence is just as important as understanding the choreography.

When asked how Hip Hop Club has shaped her perspective on dance and performance, Clavo said, “Throughout my years during high school, it has definitely developed my confidence and my growth.”

One key value that Clavo believes every member should have as club president is respect.

“Respect should be universal throughout everybody on school grounds. We try our best to be as including as possible, we want to create a safe environment for people to dance because most of us do not have experience with dance.”

Being club president is not as easy as it may seem. Clavo acknowledges that she occasionally procrastinates, but creating a checklist has proven to be an effective way for her to stay focused on both Hip Hop and her personal responsibilities. This simple habit helps her stay organized and focused, not only on her role in Hip Hop Club but also in maintaining a healthy balance in her personal life.

With a commitment to the club and its overall atmosphere, Clavo has earned the right to be elected president. Through her leadership, she has transformed the club to be as friendly as can be, where every member is unafraid to push their boundaries.
