It was announced on Tuesday from the Livermore Police Department that there’s been a rise in car burglaries in the Livermore area. They have been investigating the issue and looking for a solution to the problem. However the LPD urges citizens to take their own action while the “officers are actively working to catch those responsible, but prevention starts with you!”.
They provided some steps and actions to take starting with always locking your vehicle. Locking your vehicle prohibits people from being able to open it and get into what you’ve left behind, or possibly take your car easier. It is also vital to park in well-lit areas, especially motion sensor lights!
Some other tips include, never leave valuables in your car (especially wallets or electronic devices). When shopping, do not leave your bag in open sight, especially if you have to leave your car unattended for any reason and never leave valet keys and fobs in your vehicle.
Aside from these tips, installing alarms and visible deterrents have a big impact on potential thieves. If these are noticeable, it keeps your vehicle safer and less likely to be a target. It is also important to report any suspicious activity such as actions or vehicles you suspect to be stolen in the area.
If you have cameras, checking the footage goes a long way for the police to be able to identify the bugalers and help contain the situation more effectively than before. Even if your car was not the one stolen, your footage may be facing a house whose has. Everyone has to look out for each other as the police attempt to solve this situation.
Police urge residents to register their security cameras here! “Let’s work together to keep our streets safe”, the police added.
