It’s been less than a month and 2025 has already had plenty of bad news. It’s worth it to remember that there are plenty of good things expected in 2025, whether that’s major milestone events or simple entertaining distractions. Here are 25 things that are worth looking forward to in 2025.
January 17- Balloonerism by Mac Miller: Released nearly seven years after Mac Miller’s death, Balloonerism is the rapper’s lost album. Recorded between 2013 and 2014, it includes features from SZA and Delusional Thomas, Miller’s alter ego. While Balloonerism has been circling the internet since 2014, the album that dropped on January 17 is Miller’s official version. It’s an exciting drop for any Mac Miller or rap fans.
January 25- Venus, Saturn, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter align in the sky: On January 25 we’ll be seeing a planet parade as Venus, Saturn, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, and Jupiter align in the sky. Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn will be visible to the naked eye. No special equipment is necessary, everybody can enjoy the star show from their backyards.
February 2- NASCAR 2025 starts at The Clash at Bowman-Gray Stadium: The first NASCAR race of 2025 will take place on February 2 in North Carolina. The season runs through November, ending with the NASCAR Cup Series Championship on November 2 at the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. You can find the complete racing season schedule here.
February 9- Superbowl LIX with a Half-Time Show by Kendrick Lamar: The 59th Superbowl will be held at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. With a half-time show by Kendrick Lamar, football and music fans have a lot to look forward to. It’s currently predicted that the Eagles and the Chiefs will play the Superbowl with the odds in favor of the Eagles. Tune in on February 9 for one of the biggest nights in American sports.
February 14- Captain America: Brave New World: Captain America: Brave New World is the first Captain America movie since Chris Evans departure from the role. It stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, and president Thaddeus Ross, respectively. With the bad streak Marvel has had since Endgame, we’ll see if the franchise can recover with the newest Captain America installment.
February 19-March 5- 2025 ICC Champions Trophy tournament: One of the biggest sports in the world, cricket, culminates in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will include the top eight men’s teams from the 2023 Cricket World Cup, with the Pakistan team as the defending champion. This is the first Champions Trophy tournament since 2017, and it’s sure to be an exciting watch for cricket fans.
February 28- Alter Ego by Lisa: Blackpink member Lisa is releasing her first solo album, Alter Ego, on February 28. Three singles have been released, including the VMA-winning track “Rockstar” and “New Woman” featuring Rosalia. It’s an exciting drop for K-pop listeners and worth listening to for any pop music fan.
March 2- 97th Academy Awards: The 97th Academy Awards are happening on March 2, with many prominent actors nominated for Oscars. Whether you’re watching for Ariana Grande, Demi Moore, or Timothee Chalamet, it’s going to be a star-studded show. Conan O’Brien is hosting the show for the first time in his career; make sure to catch the ceremony to see which movies win.
March 7- Tsunami Sea by Spiritbox: Heavy metal band Spiritbox is releasing their second studio album, Tsunami Sea, on March 7. The album is accompanied by the singles “Perfect Soul” and “Soft Spine”. The band is expected to tour throughout 2025 with shows starting in February. Tsunami Sea is Spiritbox’s first album since 2021 and is highly anticipated by rock and metal fans.
March 8-15- 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy: The 12th edition of the Special Olympics World Winter Games will take place in Turin, Italy from March 8 to 15. The games will include eight sports: figure skating, snowshoeing, short track speed skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, dance sport (competitive ballroom dancing), and floorball (floor hockey). The Special Olympics are not to be confused with the Paralympics as these games are designed for athletes with intellectual disabilities rather than physical handicaps. Make sure to catch the games in March.
March 21- Snow White live adaptation: The live adaptation of Snow White is coming to theaters on March 21. The film stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. This movie is only one of the many recent live adaptations of classic Disney films; check it out in theaters to see if it lives up to the original.
April 19-20- WrestleMania 41: WrestleMania 41 is being held April 19-20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event will mark John Cena’s final wrestling match and will be available to stream on Netflix. This year’s WrestleMania features three matches: the men’s competition between Walter “Gunther” Hahn and reigning champion Cody Rhodes, the women’s competition between Rhea Ripley and reigning champion Tiffany Stratton, and the match between John Cena and a to-be-announced competitor.
May 13-17- Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland: The 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland from May 13-17. Thirty-seven countries across Europe will be competing for the Eurovision award with only one singer taking home the extra attention earned from the competition. Any fans of reality competition shows will enjoy this year’s Eurovision.
May 21- The Right Person Will Stay by Lana Del Rey: On November 25, 2024, Lana Del Rey announced her 10th studio album, The Right Person Will Stay, and an accompanying single, “Henry,” to be released this year. Del Rey has stated that the album will be heavily based in americana, country, and southern gothic music. Her long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff is confirmed as a producer. Any fans of Lana Del Rey or alternative pop will be excited to see how the singer’s newest venture turns out.
June 13- How To Train Your Dragon live adaptation: First announced in February 2023, the live adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon is coming out on June 13. A remake of the original film from 2010, it is the first DreamWorks film to be adapted to live-action. Mason Thames, who starred in the 2021 horror film The Black Phone, will be in the lead role of Hiccup. Catch it in theaters to see if DreamWorks can pull off this expansive live adaptation.
June 15-July 13- 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S.: The 21st edition of the FIFA Club World Cup is set to take place in the U.S. with 32 club teams competing. Manchester City Football Club is the defending champion from the 2023 competition. This is a lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup which will be held in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada between 48 national football teams.
July 4- the band Oasis reunites: The band Oasis will officially reunite for a 41-show tour over the course of 2025. Oasis, who were popular in the 90s, have been separated due to the heated feud between members Noel and Liam Gallagher. Will they be able to get along long enough for the concerts to happen? We’ll see!
July 11- James Gunn’s Superman: James Gunn’s version of Superman will be out on July 11. The Guardians of the Galaxy director has already dropped a trailer for the film, and it is quite different from the Superman films we’ve gotten so far. If you’re a fan of D.C. or of Gunn’s other work then you won’t want to miss Superman.
September 13-21- 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan: The 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan from September 13-21. The Championships will encompass track and field events for both men and women. Over 200 countries will be competing at what is one of the biggest competitions in the world for track and field athletes. Catch the Championships in September.
Fall 2025- Grand Theft Auto VI will be released: In late 2024, it was confirmed by video game company Take-Two that GTA 6 would be released sometime in fall 2025. The game will take place in the fake city of Leonida and will feature the game’s first female protagonist, Lucia, since 2000. Work began on the game in 2014 and is the first installment in the main GTA game franchise since 2013.
November 21- Wicked: For Good: The second half of Wicked, officially titled Wicked: For Good, will be in theaters on November 21. In the second half of the story, Elphaba, after escaping Oz, is declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard. We’ll also get a glimpse at the original The Wizard of Oz story as the second installment will include Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Lion. If you enjoyed the first movie then you won’t want to miss the rest of the story.
November 27-December 14- 2025 World Women’s Handball Championship: The 27th edition of the World Women’s Handball Championship will be jointly hosted by Germany and Netherlands from November 27-December 14. France is the defending world champion from the 2023 competition. The championship is the biggest night in handball for the women’s teams, so make sure to watch the championship while it’s on.
Date TBA- Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery: Although no official date has been announced, it’s confirmed that the third installment in the Knives Out franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man, will be released in 2025. Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc and Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, and Josh Brolin are confirmed for the cast. Any fan of murder mystery will be excited for this film.
Date TBA- 175 countries commit to U.N. treaty to reduce single-use plastics: It’s good news for our environment as 175 countries are expected to enforce a U.N. treaty agreeing to reduce single-use plastics. As part of the treaty, all participating counties have also agreed to research more sustainable alternatives to plastic. The treaty on plastic pollution was adopted in 2022 by the UN Environmental Assembly and will be implemented at some point in 2025.
Date TBA- Lady Gaga, ASAP Rocky, Miley Cyrus, and others expected to release albums: No dates have been announced, but many musical artists have confirmed that they plan on releasing albums in 2025. Some of those artists include Lady Gaga, ASAP Rocky, Addison Rae, Saweetie, and Kesha. Even though 2024 was a huge year for music, there’s still plenty to look forward to in 2025. This year, music critics are expecting announcements and album drops from some of the biggest names in the industry.
