2024 model of the year awards have been announced and it changes the modeling industry dramatically and also caused some backlash. The 2024 model of the year award was given to Alex Consani who is the first transgender woman to win the award, breaking past barriers and opening new possibilities in the modeling world. Alex, both a tik tok sensation and a modeling sensation she is a well known and liked model within society. She is the first transgender model to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, Chanel, and Stella McCartney. Consani, known for her distinctive bleached eyebrows and hair and her ambient personality said this when she received the award, ¨“Now, more than ever, it’s an important conversation that should be had about how to truly support and uplift one another within this industry, especially those who have been made to feel insignificant.” Alex Consani signing with IMG models in 2019, an agency which represents incredibly successful models allowed Consai to be an international sensation quickly. That and her successful tik tok with over 4 million followers where she posts comedic videos of her true self. In October both Consani and Valentina Sampalo were the first trans models to appear on the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. Despite her success with the award, a candidate she was running against, Anok Yai, was not as happy with the results. Yai, congratulated Ms. Consani even as she herself was passed over, writing on X, “Alex can be proud and I can be exhausted at the same time.” Both models have a backstory on how hard it was to adjust to the modeling world as a minority. Despite the struggle they both became global sensations because of their highclass runway shows and their beauty. Because of this, it caused many Anok Yai fans to be upset over the results. However this also caused Alex Consai fans to claim that Anok Yais response was a more jealous sense when she overall just upset about how she was never recognized for her hard work and dedication within the modeling industry but still being extremely proud of Consai for her success.
