As we enjoy the holiday season and Christmas day approaches, there are always plenty of movies to watch during or before Christmas that give us the joy and spirit of Christmas. However, I believe this movie is too underrated and is a must watch for those looking for a movie for this holiday. Klaus (2019), which was directed by Pablo Sergio who is also responsible for being involved in the makings of other amazing animated movies, such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Despicable Me, and Tarzan. This movie revolves around the origins of Christmas and the evolution of its tradition through the story of a spoiled son of a very successful businessman being set off to an isolated snowy town which has been in an endless battle between two rivaling families where the protagonist Jesper tries to escape the town, but eventually settles down and refuses to return to his original life.
What makes Klaus a stunning film visually, the film mixes traditional hand-drawn animation with 3D elements. The entire animation style contributes to promoting the idea of Christmas spirit, while still retaining a very fresh and original style to the entire film. The art style also compliments the characters in this film, with their appearance being very representative of their personalities and their history, with each design being unique and distinguishable. The overall film has so much personality and emotion, from the coloring of the environment to the facial movements and expressions of the characters, which makes everything feel alive and connected.
The entire message of the film conveys the importance of kindness, friendship, and companionship. Simple and small acts of kindness and affection result in the entire town thriving and coming together, ending all hate towards one another due to their affiliation. This idea of kindness is embedded in the film, which is why it’s a great movie for the holidays as the season of goodwill and good cheer all around. This makes it a perfect film for young audiences, and is still a good movie for older people, making it a great movie for the entire family to watch together. Klaus focusing on kindhearted and emotional moments make it a much more meaningful narrative giving a sense of joy and compassion for the audience, making it enjoyable to watch everytime you come back to it.Â
In conclusion, I highly suggest you watch the movie Klaus. Watch it for its beautiful animation, meaningful messages of joy and kindness, the origins of the holiday traditions we see today, and the story of the main character. It is an emotional and engaging film and I wish to share that feeling with you. Klaus will forever remain as one of the, if not, the best animated Christmas movies, and should get as much attention as other popular animated Christmas movies.
