If you love watching the best of the best compete then you will love this year’s World Series. With the playoffs just ending, we have the Yankees and the Dodgers playing against each other to end the 2024 MLB season. Despite the unfortunate loss for the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Mets it leads to an exciting question on who is going to win the World Series title this year.
With Aaron Judge and Shohei Othani, two stunning players, both winning multiple MVPs creates a close call on who is going to win. Both teams were dominant on each side of the coast according to Baseball Reference with the Yankees record being 94-68-0, ending in 1st place in the AL East; the Dodgers’ record was 94-64-0 and ended in 1st place in the NL West. The last meetup with the Dodgers against the Yankees in forty-three years makes this year’s World Series a little bit more special to Dodgers and Yankees fans. According to BetMGM, it made the prediction that the winner would be the Yankees with a +110 and the Dodgers being a -135.
Despite the prediction, both teams have had their ups and downs this season. The Yankees struggled to get consistent production from their hitters with their exceptions being Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. The only two players with an OPS of .725 were Giancarlo Stanton and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Now Soto is hitting like he did during his regular season and Stanton is doing much better. This is a great advantage for the Yankees but Stanton is commonly known for his ups and downs where he does not bat his best consistently. The Yankees averaged 5.8 runs per game against the Guardians but the Dodgers have a tougher test overall than Cleveland.
The Dodgers have a slight disadvantage because they lack starting pitchers; Flaherty is inconsistent and same for Yamamoto and Buehler. Both Yamamoto and Buehler have shown that they can pitch hard under the pressure but hardly ever last more than five innings due to their injury history. Yamamoto was only able to pitch once in the NLCS because of his every five day routine. The Yankees might have a hard time against the Dodgers incredible lineup; however, that does not mean that the Yankees do not have a chance to win.
This year’s NLCS MVP award was Tommy Edman from the Dodgers and predictions leading Shohei Othani to winning the NL MVP award next. Shohei Othani is a Japanese professional baseball player who first made his MLB debut in 2018 for the Anaheim Angels. He bats left and pitches right which is an extreme advantage for the Dodgers. He created the 50/50 homers club which is 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in one season and on top of that is extremely talented in not just hitting but pitching too. Despite his past injuries, he still manages to hit extremely well and creates extreme competition for all MLB baseball players.
With Othani just being at the start of his career he shows incredible potential and is debated to be one of the best baseball players of all time. The Yankees best player is Aaron Judge; Judge is a show stopper right fielder and bats extremely well. His RBI in 2024 was 144 and his career RBI was 716, comparing that to Shohei Othani’s RBI of 130 in 2024 and 567 in his career. Both athletes make the world series just a little bit more exciting because of how high the competition is. Watch the 120th edition of the World Series at home or in the Yankees stadium itself.
