Why is there so much construction? Why is there so much equipment and workers in Downtown Livermore?
Livermore has been experiencing a giant wave of construction ever since 2004. Many projects have been completed by now to better the City of Livermore and memorialize events that Livermore was involved in, such as Stockman’s Park which served the purpose of memorizing the veterans from the valley who have served in World War 1, and Livermorium Plaza which commemorates the creation of the element Livermorium by a team of scientists which including ones from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Another project, the Legacy Apartments, allowed for more housing for those coming to Livermore. It gave 14,000 square feet of land for all residents, with 222 studio-size or one—to three-bedroom apartments. The Legacy Apartments also provide a community-exclusive swimming pool and fitness center for residents to enjoy.Â
I Street Parking Garage has improved parking availability downtown by providing a total of 274 parking spaces which can also provide accessibility spaces and electric vehicle spaces. These current projects and future ones are to help Livermore’s way of life, improving the conveniences and promoting certain aspects that will improve Livermore in its entirety.
Downtown Livermore is currently undergoing many renovations, one of the most prominent and closer to completion is the L Street Parking Garage. It is set to be completed in April of 2025; the project started its construction in 2022. The Parking Garage will provide 452 parking spots which also support electric vehicles, bicycles, and those with disabilities providing more convenient parking for people in Downtown Livermore. The main goal of this project is to allow more parking for people but also plays a crucial role in parking for other upcoming projects.
An anticipated project that will be in construction in the coming years will be the Downtown Boutique Hotel. The Boutique Hotel will provide a 144-room, four-story hotel that will provide a bar, lounge, rooftop patio, swimming pool, and more to accommodate travelers. The hotel will give guests an aesthetic and stunning experience during their stay in Livermore.
Another project that will be in construction this year would be the expansion of Blacksmith Square. The expansion of Blacksmith Square will provide 13,000 square feet of space for the addition of three more buildings which will act as restaurants and retail for people to use, this would be built around Stockman’s Park. The expansion will also help strengthen the historical aspect of the historic buildings in the area and help preserve it.
Even with these current projects, there is still more to come to Livermore. The following projects are only concepts or need to be scheduled to be constructed.
One such project that would impact Livermore would be the Eden Housing which is yet to be scheduled to be in construction. Eden Housing has partnered with the City of Livermore to build affordable housing downtown. The project itself would construct 130 units which will vary between one- to three-bedroom houses for possible residents. An additional project that is yet to be scheduled is Veteran’s Park which would be an addon to Eden’s Housing. Veteran’s Park aims to provide 0.7 acres for the public to enjoy, while it acts as a park it will serve as a memorial for those who have served in the armed forces. The project would be constructed alongside the Eden Housing.
Projects relating to engagement with the community would be the construction of the SPARC Theaterlab and the Quest Science Center which both are in construction and are set to be completed in 2025.
SPARC Theaterlab aims to provide the community of Livermore with opportunities to see and participate in the arts of theater, providing and promoting creativity and community engagement, as well as supporting artists and performers. This project will allow for further involvement for those interested in the arts. Quest Science Center serves the purpose of inspiring the community to get involved in S.T.E.M. by providing community events, programs, and demonstrations to give people something to be interested in. The Science Center will serve as a foundation for those who wish to pursue science.
These projects will hopefully improve Livermore and allow more people to live here and enjoy residing or visiting the city. More things are coming to Livermore, and new things are coming every year, all we have to do is wait.
