Despite the beginning of autumn around the corner, the California heat has refused to let up. The first of October hit 103 degrees, the 2nd hit 108, the 3rd dropped slightly to 105, the 5th at 101, 6th at 102, and finally the 7th at 103.
These temperatures sent California into a heat wave, with multiple warnings on weather apps and national news channels.
This scorching heat even broke records in multiple areas around California, including San Francisco where temperatures hit 97 degrees and 98 at the airport. The last time this happened was in 1992 when San Francisco hit 94 degrees. The airport regions also broke their record in 2023 of 92 degrees.
Another record broke in Napa County when the Napa State Hospital reached 102 degrees; the previous record was set in 1930 when the county reached the same temperature. Other areas that broke records include Sonoma County, Marin, and Redwood City.Â
San Rafael reached the highest temperatures in the Bay Area this weekend at 107 degrees. The closest this area ever got to this temperature was in 2023 when they reached 95 degrees. As the weekend ends and citizens of Northern California grow further frustrated, the question on everyone’s mind is when it will end.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory ended on Monday, October 7th at 11 pm. We can hope to see some well-deserved fall weather in the upcoming weeks. The days after the advisory continue to be in the mid-80s.
It is important to note that weather is unpredictable and although it is backed with data, this does not mean there can be no other heat wave in the fall season. It’s important to stay cool and be prepared for any future heat waves.
