The 24-hour race is a charitable event that happens annually. It will take place from March 23rd to March 24th. The money generated from this event will be donated to “a number of different charities supporting human trafficking survivors” says Rowan Weiss, one of the committee members. This is Weiss’s second year working on the 24-hour race. It has been going on for 4 years, started by Sarah Sourish. The committee expects to amass 1000 participants this year. “It usually starts kind of slow and picks up closer to the race,” says Weiss about the participant numbers.
This race donates the proceeds to charitable organizations that help human trafficking victims and survivors. Human trafficking can mean forced slave labor, involuntary domestic service, bonded labor, and child soldiery. These things happen to people every day and many avenues can be used to help these survivors, and the best option available for the average student this season is to donate or join the 24-hour race.
Right now tickets are 35$ so ready yourself for the race and run to buy your tickets! Weiss adds, “Do the race, participate even if you’re not gonna be running in the race, I’d say like send fund raising money to those who are doing it cause it’s for a great cause and it helps a lot of people.”
