After almost four months, the actors’ union voted to approve the deal with studios that would end the SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Actors went on strike earlier this year due to unfair wages, lack of residuals, and the use of A.I. TV shows and movies were paused indefinitely or canceled. Actors were prohibited from promoting their work, going to auditions, and participating in interviews, among many other rules. If actors disregarded these rules, they could be fined, suspended, or expelled.
A lot of actors were seen on the picket lines with signs, T-shirts, and more demanding fair pay over the last few months, along with social media posts showing support for SAG-AFTRA.
118 days after the strike started, the longest actors strike in Hollywood history, a tentative agreement was reached. SAG-AFTRA announced there had been a unanimous vote to approve a new contract. On November 9 at 12:01 am, the strike officially ended.
Many actors have expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received and their joy at being able to go back to work. Many productions such as Stranger Things season 5 and The Last of Us will resume immediately.
