On Sunday, October 15, 2023, the abandoned shopping center close to Lucky’s off Holmes St. caught ablaze and started a major structural fire. Officials said, “the three buildings involved were all abandoned, but that the fire did start to spread to a fourth building, one called the Charming Fig.” Luckily, there were no serious injuries, and the new stores like Xtreme Pizza and Bubb’s bagels were untouched.

The fire was described to start at 5:15 in the evening and videos show a huge gray cloud that people could see from Dublin. The firefighters neutralized the fire and kept it controlled for a whole 2 hours.  Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries and were released later that day. The fire was contained and is still undergoing investigation by LPFD, and Alameda County Fire Department. Chief Greg Kurtz said the three abandoned buildings were “a total loss.” Roads later reopened at 9:30 pm and the stage 3 fire was officially put down.
