The 95th Academy Awards are finally upon us. A lot of great films were released in 2022, and each category is stacked with amazing choices, so here are my picks for who deserves to win at the 2023 Oscars.

Best Picture

The highest honor there is in the movie industry, Best Picture is presented to a film that was the best of that year. That means it can take into account the acting, directing, writing, and overall production of the film. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Picture is Everything Everywhere All At Once. Everything Everywhere was the stand-out film of 2022 and caught everyone’s attention with its plot, actors, and exciting twist on the multiverse. Everything Everywhere All At Once is an exciting, entertaining movie and is Best Picture.

Best Actor

Best Actor, another one of the biggest categories, is presented to an actor who gave an outstanding performance in a lead role in a film released within the past year. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Actor is Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin. Colin Farrell gave a great performance as Padriac in The Banshees of Inisherin as he navigates the reasons why his best friend broke up their friendship. He was a fantastic part of the film and is the Best Actor.

Best Actress

One of the most anticipated awards of the night, Best Actress is presented to an actress who gave an outstanding performance in a lead role in a film released within the past year. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Actress is Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once. The star of this amazing film, Michelle Yeoh gave an outstanding performance as Evelyn Quan Wang, a regular woman who gets thrust into the complexity of the multiverse. Yeoh did an amazing job and she is the Best Actress.

Best Director

One of the awards presented to the people behind the scenes, Best Director is awarded to a director who exhibited outstanding directing on a film within the past year. This year’s nominees are:

Ruben Östlund, Triangle of Sadness

Todd Field, Tár

Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin

Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans

My pick for Best Director is Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Kwan and Scheinert did a great job with this film and are responsible for making it so spectacular. They both did an amazing job of directing this hit movie and deserve Best Director.

Best Supporting Actor

The Oscars aren’t just for lead actors! Best Supporting Actor is presented every year to an actor who gave an outstanding performance in a supporting role. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Supporting Actor is Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Nobody can stop talking about Ke Huy Quan and that’s because of his stand-out performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Not only did he do a good job in his role but complemented the other actors and is the Best Supporting Actor.

Best Supporting Actress

The last of the acting awards, Best Supporting Actress is presented to an actress who gave an outstanding performance in a supporting role in a film within the past year. This year’s nominees are:

Hong Chau, The Whale

Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin

Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All At Once

My pick for Best Supporting Actress is Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Another great part of this film, Jamie Lee Curtis stunned in her performance as auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdre. Her acting worked great with the other characters and is one of the people that made this film so fun to watch. Jamie Lee Curtis is the Best Supporting Actress.

Best Original Score

Best Original Score is presented annually to the composer of an underscore made specifically for a film. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Original Score is All Quiet on the Western Front by Volker Bertelmann. Scores can ruin or exemplify a movie, and the score of All Quiet helped make it one of the best movies of the year. The score was one of the many elements of the movie that stands out and was wonderfully done. All Quiet on the Western Front had the Best Original Score.

Best Original Song

One of the most exciting categories of the Oscars, Best Original Song is presented to the songwriters of an original piece of music featured in a film. This year’s nominees are:

My pick for Best Original Song is “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and BloodPop. A standout song from a standout movie, “Hold My Hand” was a well-written and creative song that also was perfect for Top Gun: Maverick. The Best Original Song is “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga.

Best Animated Feature

Best Animated Feature is presented every year to the creators of an outstanding, 40+ minute animated film released within the past year. This year’s nominees are:

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Marcel the Shell With Shoes On

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish

The Sea Beast

Turning Red

My pick for Best Animated Feature is Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. This stop-motion film puts a fun, imaginative twist on the classic fairy tale of Pinocchio, and is everything you would expect from a Guillermo del Toro film. It’s whimsical, creative, and filled with stunning visuals. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is an excellent movie that deserves Best Animated Feature.

The 95th Academy Awards are being hosted on March 12, 2023, by Jimmy Kimmel at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA. They will be on at 5 p.m. PT and you can watch the awards show on ABC.
